The Ace of Spades is more than just a hand cannon; it’s a legend, a legacy, and a reminder of the daring spirit of the Hunter Vanguard, Cayde-6. Built with precision and style, the Ace of Spades is a weapon that embodies the rogue charm and sharpshooting prowess of its former owner. Forged with a sleek, deadly design and adorned with its iconic spade emblem, this hand cannon is synonymous with vengeance and resilience.
Infused with the Light, the Ace of Spades carries a unique set of perks that elevate it beyond an ordinary firearm. Its signature ability, Memento Mori, loads the weapon with high-damage rounds after a kill, rewarding precision and aggression in equal measure. Paired with Firefly, each precision kill creates an explosive burst of Solar energy, making it a devastating force on the battlefield. With an innate radar perk that keeps Guardians aware of their surroundings even while aiming down sights, it ensures that no enemy can sneak up unnoticed.
The Ace of Spades was Cayde-6’s most prized possession, and following his tragic demise at the hands of Uldren Sov, it became a symbol of revenge and justice for Guardians who seek to carry on his legacy. Whether wielded in the Crucible or against the forces of Darkness, the Ace is a testament to the Hunter’s creed—swift, stylish, and always one step ahead.

- 3D Modeling and Design: Enhanced STL files in SolidWorks, adding functional trigger and hammer mechanisms.
- Additive Manufacturing: Utilized FDM printing with PLA to create durable and precise parts.
- Surface Finishing: Applied sanding, priming, and advanced airbrushing techniques for a professional finish.
- Mechanical Assembly: Integrated functional springs and screws for movable components.
- Problem-Solving: Designed a chipped-paint effect using liquid latex for a realistic weathered look.
Project Summary:
- Designed and fabricated a highly detailed replica of the Ace of Spades handcannon from Destiny, incorporating advanced airbrushing, mechanical modifications, and creative assembly techniques.
Design and Fabrication Steps:
[1] 3D Printing and Modifications:
- Sourced STL files from Cults3D, then imported them into SolidWorks for customization.
- Enhanced functionality by improving trigger, hammer, and cylinder designs, and added pilot holes for screws.
- Printed all parts using a CR10 V2 FDM printer with Hatchbox Pro PLA.
[2] Surface Preparation:
- Applied Rustoleum sandable filler primer and Bondo spot putty to smooth layer lines and fill seams.
- Wet-sanded parts with various grits of sandpaper for a polished finish.
[3] Painting and Detailing:
- Used Vallejo Model Air White and Black paints for the handcannon's signature color scheme, applied with a Master Airbrush G233 and Master 1/5hp air compressor.
- Achieved a chipped, worn effect by layering liquid latex over black paint before applying white. Latex was removed to reveal realistic wear.
- Used blue painter’s tape to create crisp edges and intricate details like the spade symbol on the handle.
[4] Assembly and Functional Features:
- Incorporated springs from ballpoint pens for the trigger and hammer mechanisms.
- Embedded cut-off screw heads and ring washers into the handle for added detail and realism.
- Assembled components using a combination of epoxy and super glue for durability.
[5] Final Finish:
- Airbrushed shadows and highlights to enhance depth and realism.
Sealed the finished replica with Testors Dull Cote for a satin protective layer.
